Post subject:  Shooting into melee with template weapons

So had some buddies play a game today and an interesting question came up: can you fire template weapons in melee? Normally you take a -8 to RS, but template weapons auothit and you can position them so you won't hit your own guys which makes them seem a little weird for shooting into melee.

Basically we had 3 Praetorian Stalkers in melee with some Trenchers, and a Hurricane walker used it's heavy chimney to hit two of the Stalkers but due to being able to aim as the player saw fit he avoided hitting any of his own stuff and thus put them at zero risk(of course with gas-masks they would have been immune anyway, but I digress). Is that right? Basically it means Imperials chimney weapons are perfectly designed to deny any sort of close combat because they can either straight up avoid hitting their own guys or just not worry since gas-masks abound.

Under 'Making a ranged attack with Flamer Template Weapons' (p39 if my pdf is correct)
"If any Engaged Model is within a Flamer Template, every Model within CCWR of the Model within the Flamer Template receives a Wound Efect or SP Damage at the Flamer Weapon’s St or AVV."

In the described situation this means that any trenchers in ccwr of the two stalkers would have to take gas tests (if they are in ccwr of both, then two tests). And remember that gas masks don't make you immune, they only give you a reroll, meaning trenchers targeted by a heavy chimney still only have a 36% chance of surviving.

Ah thanks! Apparently I missed that part somehow when looking it up.
