We have had a few people ask about the organisation of forces and how many minis they should buy to get an effective force.

So there will be secret goals like in RISK?
Cool idea.

If an average game will have 500 points and a single soldier cost 10 points and a hero 70 that would make 3 Heroes and 3 squads with each 10 members.
That is really skirmisher size.

I like that. But if you want a bigger battle, still within standard game size, you could field 7 squads of 10-12 soldiers, that is over 80 figures, which is quite a lot considering that each of them can use different actions.

That of course is assuming only 10 point models. That's your most basic model. In theory that might work out by Zerg effect but you're going to have low to hit and defense values and lack of special weapons and hard hitting models...

It's a fundamental part of lots of games I run!

I ran a flintloque game where an Ogre had to try and get a dwarf to be it's pet, but the dwarves were all terrified of Ogres so spent the game running away, or at least keeping their distance and filling them with lead!!!

I was thinking in terms of max ammount of troops not point cost. The army with 80 models would probably be like 1500 points not 500 :D , still within the standard force size (agreed that you play 1000 or 1500 of course)

We played so far games of 800 to 1500 points. 750 points are real Skimisher forces. I love the big games.

I think that most elite units min/max options should be decreased. It does not sound very elite when being just 2 troopers less than grunts [and it is really weird for units like Mortificators which should really be rare]. Previous editions had it handled better like 6-12+leader for basic infantry and 3-5+leader or 4-8+leader for elites.

I think it's to give people the option to play an incredibly specialist force, or one that is less specialist, if they would prefer to stick to a more stringent background.

Options are a good thing.

There may even be leaders that 'unlock' certain rarer troops and make them more common.
