Every time I see them played in a battle report it seems they get slaugthered. They don't have any thing other than a rifle and a knife. How exactly ar they any better that airborne infantry dropping in on something?

I don't have any yet and was thinking of getting some, but not really sure of their purpose.

Their stats are pretty decent, just look at them. On top of that they have increase M value do to the jump pack, so its not that that they can drop where they want and from there move normally like airborne, but they get to move during the whole game more than anyone else. Often good units get slaughtered quickly because they are good and thus they are priority target.

Airborne are lethal when they drop but then not so special, banshees are strong for the whole game. They have very good stats, nice skills and are mobile - and only cost 4 points more per model compared to airborne.
Other than that, they look awesome...that was the reason that I got them ;)

Banshees are a good unit, they are fast and excellent in close combat when using the jump packs. I think their mobility is the thing that makes em a very useful in your toolbox!

Banshees are good for 3 reasons.

1. High mobility.
-With rapid deploy and +3 to Mv these dudes get where they want to go and fast.
2. Excellent RS and CC stats, fairly high Con, and decent armor.
-these dudes are your all around elite troops, and their stats reflect it. Their uses may not be obvious on paper but good players will target them fast. If they are left alone they will sow chaos anywhere they like on your enemies side of the field.
3. Rules.
-(1) resource for a -5LD fear check? Yes please. They can engage from a ridiculous range and once there turn into a mini Jedi (stun and additional ROA) and can jump free without a free slash the next turn. Toss in anti vehicle "sticky" grenades used in close combat and these dudes can target what they want with a high probability of taking it down be it vehicle or unit.

2 downsides to Banshees

1. You pay for versatility.
-they cost a lot for elite troops.
2. Rapid Deploy
-they have a small chance of outright obliterating themselves on landing or a medium chance of deactivating on landing. Some choose not to rapid deploy them because of this.

Hope this helps.

Also, the additionnal free jump boost and CON save on higher ground drop car really help on a map with lots of horizontal platfoms.
