It worked out Ok for us I think. Subsequent rounds would have been ever faster. The first took the longest, with the (half) second one only taking a fraction of the time of the first (taking into account that we only got half way through it).
What might have helped us, is that we played in clear teams of two instead of a free for all. We also first rolled for initiative within a team (say 1st Team: Player A followed by Player B and 2nd Team: Player 1 followed by Player 2) then we rolled for the general initiative. So it was always A, 1, B, 2, A, 1, B, 2... in round one and 2, A, 1, B, 2, A, 1, B in round two. We also used the same order when determining who was allowed to play a Strategy, Tactical or Gear card. Does not sound like much, but it really helped the flow of the game.
