Valerie Duval had been on Mars for less than 3 weeks, her services having been called in to help against the growing Dark Legion attacks on the outskirts of Mundburg. She had had relatively few chances to fight alongside Max Steiner and was growing increasingly thankful of that rarity. It wasn't that Steiner was inept, to the contrary, he was an excellent warrior well deserving the title of Doomtrooper. No it was that almost Capitollian bravado, he took needless risks and never, ever took anything seriously.
They poured over the maps of Mundburg and its surrounds. The Legion raids had hit most of the outer villages, seemingly at random. The other outer villages had all been evacuated to preserve Homebuilder lives, but the aristocracy, of Mundburg were getting restless. The continued destruction of Bauhaus' holdings would not, could not stand. So they had called Duval in to get the job done. She still wasn't certain if it was good or bad luck that seen Steiner arrive in Mundburg three days prior returning from R&R in the Capitollian capital of San Dorado.
Steiner had been leading his Venusian Rangers into any and every foray against the Legion that he could. He had a knack for being in the right place at the right time to catch their attacks, even if he did so with almost zero intel. So far though he had done nothing to stop the attacks, just bloodying the nose of the Dark Legion forces. A decisive attack was needed, something that would stall the attacks in their tracks. She had finally pinned Steiner down to form a plan of attack when word reached them of the hasty evacuation of Pollenfeld. After receiving the intel she glared at Steiner, as grinning, he donned his skull helmet and called for his men to be readied for the attack. Duval sighed, so the planning would have to be done en route with next to no intel. Fantastic.
As they arrived at Pollenfeld they were immediately surprised to see the village largely intact. Their surprise was quickly overshadowed as they saw the looming bulk of the Black Widow towering among the few buildings in the village. Steiner immediately "called dibs" amid the arguments of his men about whether it looked more like a spider or an ant. Even this was not as big a shock as learning that Valpurgius and Golgotha were leading the Dark Legion force. Duval and the Etoiles Mortant knew their goal immediately, if one or both Nepharites could be taken down then the attacks could be easily dealt with. Grim determination set in as the Bauhaus forces moved into position.

Deployment saw the Dark Legion at the top of the map with the Undead Leggionaires, led by Golgotha, next to Valpurgius on the left the Back Widow in the centre and Razides holding the right. Bauhaus had the Venusian Rangers, Hussars and Artillery Korps on the left, Vulkan Battlesuit, Etoiles Motant and Valerie Duval in the center. The Vorreiters were opposite the Razides on the right whilst Steiner snuck up between the Razides and the Black widow in the center.

Undead Leggionaires led by Golotha, The Warlord Valpurgius nearby ordeering the army's advance

The Black Widow prepares to cause some havoc

The Etoiles Mortant, Valerie Duval and the Vulkan preparing to rush forwards

The Bauhaus firebase of Venusian Rangers, Hussars and a Feldkannone

The Black Widow advances, birthing a unit of Undead Leggionaires and trading grotesque amounts of fire with Steiner, who is eventually gunned down by a combination of the Black Widow and the Razides HMGs

The Vulkan rushes across the field to slam into the Black Widow, managing a few solid blows to the head in the process.

The Etoiles Mortant rush in incinerating the newly birthed Legionnaires with the Gehenna Puker and then proceed to chop up the rest in short order. They also try the luck against the Black widow to support the Vulkan and I realise 2 things, 1) the black widow is tough as nails and 2) stick grenades are not a close combat grenade... probably should have looked at that sooner. I also manage to find myself stuck in combat with the Widow and as such choose not to shoot it with my anti tank weapons, a stupid, stupid descision.

The Nepharites and Legionnaires on the left continue to advance with Dark Symmetry and unnaturally accurate Legionnaires taking their toll on my forces, especially the Venusian Rangers.

The Vorreiters surge forward trading fire with the advancing Razides. Bullets bounce harmlessly off the Razides, whilst the Razides own shots tear through the bikes.

The Rangers advance after taking a beating from Undead Legionnaire fire. The Hussars and Feldkannone provide (rather ineffective) fire support

The Rangers charge in doing far more damage in close combat than they ever did shooting the sergeant even injures Valpurgius!

The Razides continue to fire at the Vorreiter and take down Steiner.

The last Vorreiter then blazes away killing a Razide as he charges in!

Golgotha uses her mirror to teleport and finish off the pesky Rangers assaulting her minions, whilst the Undead use their phenominal accuracy to blast apart the two Rangers with ARG-17s

The Razides kill the last Vorreiter and secure the right flank.

The Black Widow smashes the Vulkan to pieces with one of its Tarsus before laying into the doomed Etoiles Mortant. The Mortant with the Puker sets off after Valpurgius.

Golgotha hurls Undead Legionnaire after Legionnaire into the hail of fire from Hussars, losing over half of her squad and almost being killed herself.

Valerie Duval charges Valpurgius dealing some damage but only just failing to kill him.

The artillery korps and Hussars continue to pour fire into the Legion position as the battle winds down.

The battle comes to an end, Bauhaus having almost killed both Nepharites but having only done superficial damage beyond that. The Dark Legion on the other hand had severely mauled the Bauhaus forces leaving only a handful of survivors.
Duval swore silently as she ordered the Bauhaus forces to retreat. She had last seen Steiner disappear in a hail of gunfire, although knowing her luck he would survive to annoy her another day. She had been so close to bringing down Valpurgius, but her desperate gambit had failed. She could still hear Valpurgius' mocking laughter as she had broken off the attck amid the swirling energies of the Dark Symmetry that surrounded him.
Next time she swore she would take his head.
Next time!
Victory for the Dark Legion!
